Sometime in the future, come to Anime Weekend Atlanta. I went last year, and had a blast, and I plan on going this year. If you do come, I'll gladly point you towards a Japanese Grocery Store and book store where you can rent anime and buy some manga and comics.
Aww bummer. Well when you do come, stop at a shop called Tomato Japanese Store and Books Japan. Both are in a small shopping center not too far from where the convention is held, and both stores are right next to each other.
